Posted: 14 Jun 2010 12:27 AM PDT

Wonder Girls' last perfomance of 2 Different Tears in Korea was aired through SBS Popular Music on June 13th. Since SBS Popular Music didn't air for 2 weeks, the show contained the last performance of Wonder Girls during their stay in Korea for 2 weeks.

Currently Wonder Girls are traveling all over US and Canada as part of their Wonder Girls World Tour that consists of 27 performances. Just like what Wonder Girls did for Jonas Brothers, either 2AM or 2PM will be part of Wonder Girls' concert as opening performers.

[News] Park Shin-hye’s Song Picks

Posted: 14 Jun 2010 12:15 AM PDT

It is though the small screen that viewers have watched Park Shin-hye grow up. The little girl who first drew people's attention with her innocent expressions on the music videos of Lee Seung-hwan's "Are You in Love" and "Flower" in 2003, soon caught on the radar of famed TV directors such as Lee Jang-soo and Hwang In-roe. She did not have much acting experience nor did she undergo training, but she left a strong impression with her role as the younger version of actress Choi Ji-woo's character in SBS TV series "Stairway to Heaven" which earned her the reputation as a promising teen actress. She then took on roles with more weight in her succeeding productions but failed to fall under the pressure and rather showed steady development.

That is how she made a headstart into the world of acting not as an adult but this was why her decision to become Go Mi-nam in SBS TV series "Minamishineyo," her first role after getting into college last year, was all the more interesting. Like Park's explanation that the drama "was about people my age and my character Mi-nam was a lot like who I actually am," Park played a never-before-seen unique female character who in disguise as her twin brother, acts as a member of a top idol group. Odd moments in the drama blended well with Park's stable acting to create humor and Mi-nam's way of dealing with pain or conflict -- facing up to it with sincerity rather than distorting the other person's intention -- was exactly like Park's simple nature. Park, who cheerfully said the long shoots and cold weather "is tough" but feels "happy to see everyone once on set and more energetic after goofing around with them" recommended songs which perk up her mood when on set.

1. Victor View "Oil Painting"
"I'm not picky about the genres I listen to but I prefer music with acoustic sounds like the acoustic guitar or harmonica over electronic sounds. I tire out quickly when I have to go to set early in the morning after not getting much sleep because of the shoots. That's when I listen to this music, when I want to cheer myself up. The name of the songs too are 'I Have a Dream' or 'In the Dreaming.'"He may come off as a European musician but he's actually a Korean one-man band who creates lyrical melodies and various sounds by using instruments such as the jazz guitar, harmonica and loop station. He also took part in the Pentaport Rock Festival last year after being chosen as rookie of the month in June.

2. Kings of Convenience "Riot on an Empty Street"
"While I was taking a break from acting last year, I exercised, learned pottery and Chinese characters. This is the music that my Chinese teacher turned on then and I liked their peaceful ambience so much that I sought out their music from then on. If you listen to the lyrics for 'Cayman Island,' it talks about 'the happiness of spending time with you.' That left a strong impression on me too." Kings of Convenience, often compared to Simon and Garfunkel or Belle and Sebastian, is a Norwegian folk duo composed of Erland Øye and Eirik Glambek Bøe, both born in 1975. They have enjoyed steady global popularity since releasing their first album "Kings of Convenience" in 2000 and received heated response for their Korea concerts held in 2008 and this year.

3. ByJun "Today, One Day is the Gift!"
Park Shin-hye's third recommendation was yet-to-become-popular new age jazz pianist ByJune's album "Today, One Day if the Gift!" "I like acoustic and electronica. And I have a lot of friends that like music so when I went to one of my friend's webpage account, I came across a song called 'I Don't Love Anyone Right Now' whose piano melody I loved so I ended up looking up the entire album. When I was working on drama "Minamishineyo" in particular, it wasn't easy trying to show the emotion of how my character Mi-nam, who likes Tae-kyung but knows she shouldn't, gets hurt and feels frustrated by the smallest things that he says to her. So this is the music that helped me a lot in expressing those emotions."

4. Loveholic "In The Air"
She may look like someone who does not have an ounce of darkness to her personality but the Park Shin-hye in dramas cries quite a lot. It was not only in melodramas like "Stairway to Heaven" and "Tree of Heaven" but also in close-to-romantic comedy series "Minamishineyo" that Park often shed tears over emotions that were hard to bear. "I liked Loveholic's music even before they sang the soundtrack to film 'Take Off. In particular, the lyrics like 'You are endlessly dim to me, like a dream, you linger around me like the air, but I cannot touch you,' from song 'To me you are,' shows Mi-nam's toward Tae-kyung well. Because this is the first time Mi-nam is experiencing love and she realizes that the person who had seemed so distant has become a huge existence to her. That's why I was also able to empathize a lot with the song 'Hurt' also."

5. Lee Seung-hwan "Hwantastic Friends - Lee Seung-hwa's 20th Anniversary Album
Park, who was with Lee Seung-hwan's agency Dream Factory from her debut in 2003 to last year, still calls Lee 'factory manager.' I heard the factory manager's music for the first time at his concert in sixth or seventh grade. From then on, I think I became influenced a lot not only by his music but the music that he likes. I bought his 20th anniversary album as soon as it was released but I haven't had time to get his autograph on it because I've been so busy with filming. The title track 'Good Day II' in particular is a lot of fun to listen to when traveling to and from locations far away. "

[News] World Cup player’s victory dance reminiscent of NU ABO choreography?

Posted: 14 Jun 2010 12:08 AM PDT

[Sports Choseun T-News Reporter Lee Dasung] On the 12th of 2010, in the World Cup match between Korea and Greece, Park Jisung, after he scored a goal, did a victory dance much similar to f(x)'s choreography, which caught attention.

With only 7 minutes into the second half of the match, he took a chance and with a powerful kick, made a perfect goal that guaranteed Korea's success in the game. After Park Jisung made his goal, he ran while spinning his arms in circles, in his 'Windmill Celebration.' In England Premier in a game with Manchester United, Park Jisung would be seen doing this behavior when a goal was made from his team.

However, 'Hawk Eyed' Netizens found another meaning to Park Jisung's ceremony dance. Many said "Park Jisung spinning his arms in circles is reminiscent of f(x)'s 'NU ABO' choreography" and "It is similar to the choreography to Sulli's lines in the song 'yereul deulmyun goongdi soondi."' Pictures of Park Jisung in the windmill post has had captions saying "Windmill Ceremony, for example goongdi soondi," leading to good humored laughter.

On the other hand, with the combination of Park Jisung's goal 7 minutes into the second half as well as Lee Jungsoo's goal, Korea beat Greece 2 to 0. The second game between Korea and Argentina will take place on the 17th, at 8:00. (Korean Time)

[News] Sebakwi producer praises JoKwon & Changmin for their work ethic

Posted: 14 Jun 2010 12:02 AM PDT

Sebakwi producer praises 2AM Kwon & Changmin

MBC's variety program Sebakwi's producer has expressed his praise for group 2AM's Jo Kwon and Changmin.

Jo Kwon is an idol that earned much fame by appearing on WGM2 as the virtual husband of GaIn. However, his appearance on Sebakwi fully allowed him to express his variety skills and has quickly become a part of his fame. Jo Kwon remains loyal to the program and appears once in a while as a half-fixed panelist.

Young stars that make appearances on Sebakwi are usually swept in controversy for their unmannerly and disrespectful behavior. Kwon, on the other hand, has been earning the love of the older panelists for his sincere and genuine attitude.

Sebakwi's PD, Park Hyunsuk, met with T-News and complimented his variety skills, stating, "Jo Kwon is much like a volcano. He's got a volcano in his mouth. Once the volcano erupts, magma begins to spill out from him. He is full of talent, we'll be seeing him around for a long time."

The PD gave a thumbs up and continued, "Changmin is the same, he has got a lot of different stories to tell. He amazes me sometimes because he's got a more variety of interesting episodes than Jo Hyungki. I can see him always thinking hard at recording sets."

"The two always make a point to call the producers ahead of time in order to ask who will be appearing. That's how they prepare. They are aggressive when it comes to participation, always asking about our opinions on such and such episode they are preparing to share."

[News] How do celebrities return after disturbing the public?

Posted: 13 Jun 2010 11:56 PM PDT

How do celebrities return after disturbing the public? Frontal breakthroughs vs. Changing industries

The celebrity industry has many rumors and problems with the joys and sorrows of celebrities mingling day by day. It takes only a shameful act to drop a top celebrity to the ground.

Last year and this year, celebrities were caught up in an unusual amount of problems. An idol singer's drunk hit and run, a popular gagman's gambling and car theft and other shocking events that brought disappointment to their fans.

These celebrities can be classified into a variety of categories such as 'going overseas,' 'frontal breakthroughs,' and 'changing industries.'

There is also the exact opposite by opting instead to take a longer leave in order to reflect on one's self. In the case of celebrities that have yet to enter the military, they voluntarily enter before their comeback.

Let's examine the four different styles.

- Frontal Breakthrough Style

After the controversy is settled, the celebrity in question makes a full frontal comeback after taking a reasonable amount of time off and attempt to show a new image of themselves. Examples of such stars are Kwak Hanku and Kim Junho.

Kwak Hangu was caught stealing foreign cars twice and has recently returned as a used car dealer. By opening a new site for used cars, he's established a new life. Kwak Hangu stated, "I will show you that I will work hard. Please watch over me without any colored lenses." Regarding his comeback to the industry, he replied, "I am always interested in gag."

Kim Junho, after being met with a gambling controversy, returned to broadcasting. He returned last March on KBS 2TV's 'Gag Concert' and is now an MC on Ystar-TV's 'DC Inside Show.' He stated, "I'm still careful but I would like to show you that I am really reflecting on my actions through various different promotions. I want to show you that I am working hard."

- Changing Industries Style

There are celebrities that comeback through a different genre, for example, a singer coming back as an actor or vice versa. Returning through a new industry shows the celebrity's willingness to change themselves. Examples of such celebrities are Jaebum and Go Hokyung.

Jaebum ended his career in Korea after being swept in controversy for belittling Korea and withdrawing from 2PM. He left for America and has become the leading role for a b-boy movie called 'Hype Nation' and is currently in the midst of coming back as a celebrity. An associate of the movie stated, "He will be entering Korea for movie filming. You will be able to see good images of him working hard in the country."

Go Hokyung took time off after being suspected of drug abuse and has recently come back with a new album. Originally an actor, his return as a singer will be his first comeback as a celebrity in four years. He created a comeback project event in order to show his drive. His agency stated, "His comeback is still very careful so he will be promoting through performances as opposed to broadcast promotions. He will also be trying to work again as an actor."

- International Promotions Style

International comebacks are also being widely used. After being met with a controversy, stars that are careful of making a comeback within the nation opt to go this route. The positive aspects of this route is that it allows a constant exchange between their fans. Shin Hyesung and Yoo Seungjun are of such cases.

Last year, Shin Hyesung was caught in a gambling controversy but has recently announced his comeback with a concert in Japan under the excuse that the concert was unavoidable. The company stated, "The Japan concert was already scheduled so it was not possible to push it back any further. The only way for Shin Hyesung to repay his disappointed fans is to show himself reflecting on his actions through his singing."

Yoo Seungjun, who left Korea because of his military service controversy, is currently actively promoting in America and China. In an interview last February, he stated, "To me, Korea is my first and last. If I cannot stand back up in the place I fell in, there is no point. I don't expect to go back in Korea to work again but I do want to be forgiven."

- Military Service Style

There is also a lot of celebrities that use the military after being met with controversy. They are given two years of time that can be used as self reflection and can also obtain the image of a hard working person dutifully serving one's country. Super Junior's Kangin and Joo Jihoon are of such cases.

Kangin became swept in controversy last October for assault, drunk driving, and a hit and run. After paying $8,000 in penalties, he has volunteered to enter the military. By earliest, July, or by latest, October, Kangin wrote in his fancafe, "I am spending time by looking back on myself. Soon, I will be entering the military."

Joo Jihoon was caught for drug abuse last April and prosecuted with 6 months of prison labor, probation for a year, and 120 hours of community service. In February, upon entering the military, Joo Jihoon stated, "I will do my best to do everything asked. In two years, I will come back again with a nicer image."

Posted: 13 Jun 2010 11:43 PM PDT

2010 seems to mark a turning point in kpop history where most idol stars are diligently working out to get toned bodies. Not just male beastly idols, a lot of female celebrities are also revealing their toned abs as well.

2NE1’s Sandara Park is just one of these many celebrities, and her trainer, Hwang, posted a photo on me2day of Sandara’s transformation.

Sadly, only the after photo was put up. The reason was revealed in Hwang’s comment, “After picture!^^ I won’t be able to upload the before picture” (implying that it was too embarrassing to put up).

What do you guys think of her new look?

[news] Jo Yeo-jeong Hits Box-Office Gold with Daring Part

Posted: 13 Jun 2010 11:29 PM PDT

The Servant" released on June 2 is in many ways significant for the actress Jo Yeo-jeong. It is her first box office success since her debut in 1997, having drawn more than a million spectators in just a week since its release, and it includes the first serious bed scenes of her acting career.

"The Servant" is a modern interpretation with a satirical twist of the classic Korean folktale of Chun-hyang. It tells the story of Bang-ja, the servant of a young nobleman Mong-ryong, who becomes enamoured of a traditional entertainer or gisaeng being pursued by his master.

Jo plays Chun-hyang, the object of both men's attention. In the film she falls in love with Bang-ja, although she tries to capture Mong-ryong's heart to climb up the social ladder.

The daring scenes did not disturb her much. "I don't think the level of nudity in the film was all that excessive because it depicts a secretive love that could never come out", she says. "I looked a lot prettier than I do in reality". She adds she maintains her shape with yoga and that contributes to the scenes' success.

Jo says she learned something new and felt she was being reborn as an actress. She had perfect partnership with her university senior Kim Joo-hyeok, who plays Bang-ja.

Jo feels she is only at the start of her serious career. "It seems to me that the audience just started paying attention to me as an actress", she says.

Heechul shows his feminine side while eating

Posted: 13 Jun 2010 11:27 PM PDT

Super Junior member, Kim Heechul, is garnering attention for revealing his feminine side.

On the homepage of the SBS Radio Power FM’s Kim Heechul’s Young Street, a photo of DJ Kim Heechul eating was revealed. It may have seemed like a normal picture of someone eating, but he revealed his feminine side by using “manner hands” which is what women usually do to hold their shirt when bowing.

Because he came straight from a performance, Heechul was wearing his stage clothes which was very low-cut in the front. Therefore, he felt the need to use “manner hands” when eating. His feminine appearance with his feminine gesture only made others laugh at the scene.

Those who saw the photos said, “You can just eat!” “He’s the best at acting!” “Heechul’s manner hands, he’s even funny when he eats,” and other comments.

Gayoon talks about her recovery from eye injury

Posted: 13 Jun 2010 10:52 PM PDT

No more worries 4minute fans! Gayoon has finally recovered from her eye injury!

If you were not aware of Gayoon’s injury, we reported earlier that she injured her eye by a paper tag from a shirt.

That is why she was seen wearing sunglasses for some of her performances. She said, “I still have a little turbid feeling, but I feel fine.”

She also added, “When I first got injured and had to wear sunglasses, there were some benefits as well. Wherever I looked, it seemed as if I was looking at the camera. However I could not continue promoting with sunglasses on. I wanted to show a better and newer side so I decided to take them off.”

Even though she mentioned some benefits, the injury did make Gayoon uncomfortable. She said, “My eyes hurt a little because of the lighting, but it’s okay. I want to show a better side of myself.”

Even though we will not be seeing the chic Gayoon in sunglasses, it’s good that we can see her pretty face again! Fans can sigh in relief!

Sulli shows her cute self

Posted: 13 Jun 2010 10:36 PM PDT

How can anyone leave Sulli out when talking about cute kpop idols? Sulli of f(x) recently revealed an adorable picture of herself on her me2day.

In the photo, Sulli is wearing a shirt that has the Korean flag on it and she is also sporting an adorable new hairstyle resembling horns. She brought her cuteness level to the maximum level with her clear skin, innocent facial expression, “V” pose and topped it off with her starry eyes.

She wrote, “Hello!! It’s SsuSsuSsuSsulli^^ I’m currently on standby for Inkigayo~I tried the hairdo of Hongki oppa who is in the Hee-line~! Hehe who does it look better on~? Hwaiting to the Korean players! And keep watching Ssul MC today~ ^^

Many who saw Sulli’s adorable picture said, “The horn hairdo is very cute and pretty, goddess confirmed,” “Sulli is the real thing. She’s cute no matter what she does” “The horn hairdo is so cute, the pose is fantastic and your eyes look like sapphires. So beautiful,” and other overwhelming compliments.

[picture] MBLAQ G.O. showed his Y on Inkigayo!

Posted: 13 Jun 2010 10:31 PM PDT

Yesterday, MBLAQ looked really good at Inkigayo, if you have seen, they had pretty make up with the eyeliner going on and the jewels on their faces, also their military uniform.

But, GO was the most impressive that day, because he showed his "Y", and by "Y" i mean his chest hair! ^^

Back in Idol Army, they already flocked on his chest hair when he was punished in the mouse game thingy and they cut holes in his shirt and well, It wasn't really shown on tv, but NOW, oh yes, it's seen pretty much very clearly.

I guess he wanted to show more skin since Joon has been stripping every single performance (not that im complaining). I was pretty surprised when all of a sudden on his solo he ripped his top off sending the buttons flying on stage (LOL) and thus, his Y.

^^ Asian men do have chest hair lol, and GO got's plently of them :D in Making of the artist: MBLAQ, GO said his hair grows really fast, cause he shaved off his mustache and he keeps on shaving it cause it grows really fast. Only GO can pull off a hairy chest and mustache :)

[news] New TVXQ trio unit gives concert in Japan

Posted: 13 Jun 2010 10:17 PM PDT

Korean pop idols Hero Jaejoong, Micky Yoochun and Xiah Junsu, three members of boy band TVXQ who formed a new unit since getting involved in a legal battle with agency SM Entertainment, gave a sold-out concert in Japan over the weekend.

According to a report by Japanese newspaper Sankei Sports, the trio performed their last show of their two-city, four-gig concert tour in the country in front of some 54,000 fans who showed up Sunday at Tokyo Dome. The four shows reportedly attracted a total of 200,000 fans.

During the concert, whose setlist was comprised of a total of eighteen songs, the three singers broke into tears while performing their new track "W."

"I want to keep on singing with a pure heart. Thank you forever," Hero Jaejoong was quoted as saying at the show.

Bandmate Micky Yoochun thanked fans saying, "We were very worried if we could perform on stage again. We were able to get here because of you."

Last July, the three singers had asked a court to nullify their 13-year exclusive contract with SM, claiming that the contract period is too long.

The legal dispute led to the mega-successful boy band halting their activities as a five-member group, who officially quit working as a group in Korea last year and later in Japan as well.

Arguably the most phenomenal K-pop act created by talent agency SM Entertainment, the TVXQ had enjoyed great success throughout Asia and the Japanese music industry in particular.

Last year, they became the first foreign artist to top the Oricon singles charts six times and placed their single and album simultaneously within the top three slots of Oricon's singles and albums chart, the first time for a foreign artist to do so in 15 years.

Although the group's legal woes did little to wane their popularity among fans, the five members have been going their separated ways with Hero, Micky and Xiah forming a new group through which they will continue their music careers.

The trio are set to release a documentary DVD on July 28 and appear at music festival "a - nation'10" to be held in Osaka and Tokyo starting August 7.

Two other members, leader U-Know Yunho and Max Changmin, have ventured into acting with starring roles in upcoming musical production of "Goong" and television drama "Paradise Ranch," respectively.

Une erreur très gênante pour les Ukiss

Posted: 13 Jun 2010 10:15 PM PDT

[picture] 2ne1 Dara shows off her abs?

Posted: 13 Jun 2010 10:09 PM PDT

Queen of me2day, Sandara Park of 2ne1 has updated her me2day once again and guess what? It shows her and the rest of 2ne1 working out as usual, as they do it everyday from pre debut to 1 year and a few month's later when they debuted... and guess what... look's like their hard work are paying off as ABS are starting to form.

Dara is the skinniest member of 2ne1, and she wears baggy clothes most of the time and abs would be least thing you would think of when it comes to dara, but looks like.... she's proved us wrong.

Although, im not so sure it's her... but most likely... O_o??

[Picture]When they first debuted…

Posted: 13 Jun 2010 10:08 PM PDT

Stumbled across a collage of photos of girlgroups and female singers when they first debuted posted by a netizen on a online portal community site, and I thought I should share it.

Go under the cut to see how your favourite girlgroups have looked like when they first debut.

This is not supposed to be a full list of all girlgroups and female singers.

But it sure is satisfactory to see how the girlgroups and singers have grown since their debut. Have more photos of female singers and girlgroups when they first debut?

Shindong takes on Wang Biho

Posted: 13 Jun 2010 09:59 PM PDT

Wang Biho striked again with his sarcastic and biting attacks, and the target this time was towards the popular idol group Super Junior!

On KBS’s Gag Concert, Wang Biho warmed up by saying, “Now you guys are like presidents for the girls of Asia,” and he proved his statement by mentioning Super Junior’s recent rankings on music charts while also revealing their album cover. He continued, “I looked at the album jacket. What kind of photo shoot was it? You guys became cooler.”

One by one, Wang Biho started looking through Heechul, Leeteuk, and Eunhyuk’s photos. However, once he got to Shindong’s photo of him wearing white clothes, Wang Biho bitterly commented, “What is this~Andre Kim?”

Suddenly, Shindong walked up towards the stage and humorously defended himself, “You’ll be able to understand once some celebrity knocks out all of your teeth for your bitter attacks…Ah! No wonder implant insurance’s aren’t covered.”

Shindong not only said this, but he continued on, “I’m going to ask why Wang Biho continues to do these things even though they aren’t funny.”

Check out this hilarious scene in the clip below

Props to Shindong for standing up for himself, but it’s highly unlikely that Wang Biho will stop playfully criticizing celebrities. Of course, it’s his job as a gag man.

Infinite Challenge to encourage higher birth rate

Posted: 13 Jun 2010 09:59 PM PDT

In Korea, low birth rate is a big problem. It is the nation with lowest birth rate in the world (~1.1 children per family). To encourage higher birth rate, members of Infintite Challenge got together with children that looked just like them and created posters with those kids as part of their calendar project in the show. Yoo Jae-Suk got together with kids with black glasses, No Hong-Chul with blond children, Gil with bald kids, etc. It looks like Infintie Challenge once again found another way to give us laughter and something to think about.

KBS TV series "Three Brothers," which had led weekly TV ratings charts for 16 consecutive weeks, yielded to the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa fever which kicked off on June 11.

Figures by TNmS (Total National Multimedia Statistics) on Monday indicated that South Korea's first match of the World Cup, up against Greece, was watched by over half of the population, scoring a rating of 50.3 percent, while AGB Nielsen Media Research showed that the match brought in slightly lower ratings of 45.9 percent.

In the first Group B match of the 2010 World Cup finals, South Korea beat Greece 2-0 at the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday (Korea time). South Korea will be playing against Argentina next on Thursday.

The series had brought in respectable ratings since first airing in October last year, topping TV charts for several weeks with ratings above the 20 percent range and peaking at the 40 percent mark during its run.

MBC's historical drama "Dong Yi - Jewel in the Crown" rounded out the top three shows on TNmS' poll with viewership ratings of 29.2 percent, while AGB's chart recorded that SBS' "Bravo Lotto 645" came in third with ratings of 27.2 percent.
