Taeyang’s Star Diary Part 6: “I Felt Like I Was Being Chased.”

2009 was a hard year for Dong YoungBae (23), more commonly known as Big Bang’s soul-singer Taeyang. Preparing for his solo album at the same time as touring Japan with Big Bang took a toll on the singer, both mentally and physically.

“For me, I think last year was just a vacuum in my life. Maybe because I’ve been working as a singer for 3 years, but it was a stage in my life where I was just always feeling anxious.”

During that year, there were many times where Taeyang would go on stage with a feeling of obligation. Singing on stage when he had no energy left, then getting back to the hotel when he felt drained, he began to have an emotionally hard time.

Taeyang used to be the happiest when he was in front of fans, singing and dancing for them, it was his greatest joy. But after seeing himself not being able to perform at his fullest, he felt pathetic in his abilities.“I felt like my singing was bad. I kept thinking ‘What did I just do on stage?’”

While he was making preparations for his solo album, he was also going through his activity-filled schedule in Japan. It wasn’t the same mindset as when he first started music. Taeyang felt like he was being chased, his mind couldn’t settle and there were no results from his efforts in the studio.“When I was done with the schedule activities, I had to come back and prepare for my solo activities. Chased by time, chased by work, there was no time to relax.”

He would sing on stage, following the pitch and the beats correctly but there was no emotion behind it. He even began to close himself off from other people, it was hard for him to meet people and laugh along with them. “I stayed at home because I didn’t want to meet with people. During that time, I had troubles with sleeping.”

Despite his rough year, this all changed when he was moved by the beauty of the first snowfall of 2010. It was after this that he decided to change his way of thinking, realizing that he had to move on with higher spirits, “It’s too hard to live like this.”

Kara’s Nicole spotted without makeup in the streets

On May 28th, a new SBS variety show called My Partner was aired. As you guys have previously read, the program is about building a healthy body, featuring a cast of Noh Yoo Min, Lee Hwi Jae, Nam Hee Suk, Hyun Young, T-ara’s Hyomin and Jo Dong Hyuk.

Well during the show, Nam Hee Suk had to search around the streets of Kang Nam Goo Seoul to find his body building partner (Hyung Young). During his search, he was able to meet DJ Koo (Goo Joon Yeop) and MC Mong riding their bikes as he got to stop them and have a brief talk about whether or not they are his partner.

The two celebrities weren’t the only ones Nam Hee Suk met as he bumped into Kara’s Nicole without her makeup. Nam Hee Suk then asked her, “When you exercise, do you do it alone or with a friend?” to which Nicole responded, “I do it with a friend.”

During their brief conversation, Nicole was seen covering her face with her hand as if she was embarrased. Can it be that perhapes she was less confident without her makeup? Well, no matter what, Nicole shouldn’t worry as she was looking fine.

[News] Taecyeon leaves a message on their fancafe

On the 28th of May, fans were delighted to find Ok Taecyeon's message on a fancafe. Taecyeon left a message to thank fans for their support despite Chansung and Junsu falling ill during their promotions. He also promised to work even more and ask fans to anticipate their next comeback.

[News] Lee Jung Hyun song ranks No.1 on top Chinese portal

Korean singer and actress Lee Jung-hyun's new song has been ranked atop one of China's largest portal sites, according to her agency on Thursday. 

AVA Entertainment stated in a press release that Lee claimed the No. 1 spot on Chinese portal site QQ.com with the title track "Suspicious Man" from her newly released seventh full-length album "Lee Jung Hyun 007th."

AVA added that another song from the album, "Eeny Meeny Miny Moe," was ranked at seventh on the website which has over 400 million members.

Lee also became the most searched and only foreign celebrity to place on QQ's real-time chart as well. 

Lee, 30, made her debut into the entertainment industry in 1996 through movie "A Petal." She appeared in several other movies and dramas thereafter but is most well-known for her singing career which she has expanded into several countries in Asia.

[News] Kwon Sang Woo banks on his lucky charm

Actor Kwon Sang-woo is hoping his new film "71-Into the Fire" will help him mount a comeback with his fans.

Kwon Sang-woo, 33, was once one of the most eligible bachelors in the country, with a string of hit films and TV shows early in the decade. After seeing his popularity take a hit in recent years, he is now hoping to make a comeback with his role in the new film "71 - Into the Fire."

In the movie, set to be released on June 16, Kwon stars as Koo Kap-jo, a 17-year-old student soldier fighting against the North Korean army during the 1950-53 Korean War.

But he was almost excluded from the cast.

"I almost wasn't cast because I'm too old [for the role]," Kwon said with a laugh at a press conference held earlier this month in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam, southern Seoul.

Kim Seung-woo, who plays an officer from the South in the film, said that he, too, had concerns about the difference between Kwon's real age and that of the character he plays.

"When I heard that Kwon was cast as a character who is the same age as [Choi] Seung-hyun, I was really worried because [Kwon] is around our age," Kim said.

Choi Seung-hyun, who is widely known as T.O.P., a member of the boy band Big Bang, was born in 1987. Kwon was born in 1976.

Kim said he changed his mind after filming began, adding his own bit of wisdom about the film's chances for success.

"When we were in production, Kwon actually looked younger than [Choi]," Kim said. "And because no film in which Kwon has appeared wearing a school uniform has ever failed, I expect [this film will be a success]."

Oddly enough, the uniform has been something of a lucky charm for the actor. The movies in which he has appeared wearing a school uniform have indeed been successful.

Kwon even talked about the phenomenon at a press conference last March, saying, "So far, the movies that I've made in which I have to wear a school uniform have done well."

In the movie "My Tutor Friend" (2003), Kwon stars as a high school student and spends much of the movie in uniform.

For his role in the film, a romantic comedy, Kwon received best new artist awards at both the Daejong Film Awards and the Baeksang Arts Awards, which is a major film and arts awards ceremony in Korea.

And in "Once Upon a Time in High School" (2004), Kwon plays the leading character, Hyun-soo, a high school transfer student. The film attracted more than 3 million viewers and won critical acclaim for its realistic portrayal of school life in the 1970s. For his performance, Kwon again received an acting award at the Daejong Film Awards that year.

According to statistics from the Korean Film Council, My Tutor Friend attracted 4.9 million viewers and Once Upon a Time in High School attracted 3.1 million. Considering that total attendance at the movies nationwide was about 64 million in 2003 and 80 million in 2004, that's enough to classify both films as hits.

With or without the uniform, Kwon's success continued for most of the rest of the decade. He appeared in movies and TV dramas that became popular in both Korea and Japan.

But his popularity started to wane due to a series of scandals that emerged before and after his marriage to actress Son Tae-young in 2008.

"After I got married, membership in my fan cafe dwindled from 240,000 to 135,000 - it was like a stock market crash," Kwon said in an appearance on a talk show hosted by Kang Ho-dong on MBC in 2009.

He said his TV endorsement contracts also started to disappear. Before he got married, he had an average of seven TV commercials per year, but by early 2009 that number had dwindled down to zero.

Still, Kwon feels confident that his new film will help him regain his popularity.

"I'm predicting audiences of 10 million," he said at the recent press conference.

[News] Seulong became a singer because of his thin ears?

2AM Seulong confessed that he became a singer because his ear is thin.

On the recent filming of MBC 'Fantasy Partner- Love's Classrom, Seulong participated talking about all the episodes and worries because he is easily swayed.

On this day of the filming, Seulong said "I'm worried because my ears are too thin" and "amongst our members, I believe Jinwoon's words the most" shaking off all the episodes that occured because of his gullibility.

The whole time he talked about his thin ears, mentioning that even if he wants to change his hairstyle and changes it, when other people say it is weird, he will immediately go cut his hair demonstrating his easily wavering style. Not only this, but he said he became a singer because of his thin ears.

To Seulong's worries, the ear teacher suggested a very basic solution book solving his problem.

How he became a singer because of his 'flabby ears' will be revealed on this coming 30th at 9:20 AM.

Rain was on SBS 'One Night TV Entertainment' aired on 27th May where he was revealed on how he look at group MBLAQ. He was asked about the group whom he has personally groomed "To Rain, MBLAQ is?" and his answer was, "siblings".
He also talked about Park JinYoung who was the one who groomed him, "Even though for JinYoungie hyung, it is the same, he always told me 'I will be touched when you get to surpass me'."
Rain also added, "I think that I've surpassed Park JinYoung. I even received a call from him asking me if I think he was a vaulting horse."

f(x)’s Interview with 10Asia: “We didn’t understand the ‘NU ABO’ lyrics.”

The f(x) girls held an interview with 10 Asia, though with the members’ upbeat and cheerful charisma, it almost seemed like they were filming their own variety show.

f(x) took on online questions submitted by netizens and even freely shared their own stories. While they are currently promoting their first comback mini-album titled ‘NU ABO‘ and have been now for weeks, the girls are still practicing everyday until dawn . Even so, the girls showed up early in the morning with a lively energy and smiles on their faces that even managed to cheer up the tired reporters.

10Asia: Alot of people submitted this question. How did you respond when you first read the lyrics for ‘NU ABO’?
Krystal: For me, I just couldn’t understand it.
Sulli: I kept thinking, ‘Whats kkhungdi kkungdi?’ (laughs)

10Asia: So, did you ask about the meaning?
Krystal: Actually, the word ‘mysteric’ is a made up word. There’s ‘mystery’, but there’s no such thing as ‘mysteric’. And it’s a song about blood types but when we sing about ‘unnie’, I was just confused (laughs). After we shot the music video, it made more sense.
Luna: While we went through the storyline, we thought about how we could interpret the song.

10Asia: Did you put in your own dance moves into the song?
Luna: Yes. If I thought of a move that we could do, I would go to our choreographer and ask them if it would fit. Victoria has said this before, but her high kick move was her own idea.

10Asia: Do you believe in those blood type personality tests that are in magazines?
Luna: Everyone in f(x), except Sulli and I, believes in blood type personalities. In America and China, they don’t really care about blood types when it comes to personality. There has been times when the magazine test was a bit similar to my personality. I’m a bit timid. (laughs) That’s why I do the personality tests instead sometimes.
Sulli: She really likes those, personality tests or horoscopes.
Luna: Thanks to Sulli, I always look at horoscopes in the magazines.

10Asia: What are the member’s blood types?
Luna: Amber’s blood type is B. Victoria and Sulli are type O, Krystal is type A and I’m type AB (laughs).

10Asia: This question is for Victoria and Amber [who are Chinese], have you been able to adapt to the Korean culture? You girls have improved a lot in terms of the language.
Sulli: They are now Koreans.
Luna: We can’t say anything anymore, because they’ll understand.

10Asia: How do you study Korean? Do the other members help you out?
Victoria: When I’m with the members, I ask them about words I don’t understand. When I’m alone, I like to watch dramas. So I watch Korean dramas and think, ‘Oh? Maybe I can use that word later’, so I write it down, repeat it a couple of times and move on to the next word.
Sulli: On her desk, you can see so many post-its plastered on, not even joking.
Luna: Why do you think she knows more about Korean dramas than we do?

10Asia: Which drama have you enjoyed the most?
Victoria: ‘Full House’. No matter how many times I watch it, it’s the best. When I first came to Korea, I watched it 10 times consecutively. The conversations or words on it are used in everyday life, right? So that’s why I watched it so many times.

10Asia: Together, your group is fluent in many languages, is there any place you would want to visit or do activities in?
Sulli: Since our goal is to be Asia’s top dance group, we would really like to go abroad.
Luna: While we were resting for 4 months, we actually did go out of the country a lot. While we were there, we learned a lot about different culture and music. I wanted to to learn as much as possible so that we could make ourselves more unique. So, if there’s ever a chance, I would go abroad.

10Asia: Besides being fluent in other languages, like your group’s name, who is the best at math?
Krystal: Amber is the best at math.

10Asia: Even math? I heard that she’s good at basketball, I guess there’s nothing she can’t do!
Krystal: She’s only good at math. Only math. (laughs)
Amber: I helped Krystal with her homework.
Sulli: We actually don’t know if she’s good at it, but she says she’s good at it (laughs).
Amber: If I wasn’t a singer now, I would have studied hard. (laughs) But since I am a singer now…

10Asia: I heard your father is in South Korea right now. When did he arrive?
Amber: Um, the day before yesterday? Yes, the day before yesterday.

10Asia: Did you get to talk to him alot?
Amber: He came for business. But because he’s leaving today, I made time for him.
Sulli: Because our schedule was so packed, she couldn’t be with him a lot.

10Asia: Your father was in the news the other day, right? When you were young you took a photo with Aaron Kwok and that was because your dad knew him?
Amber: Oh, yeah, that Taiwanese article…all I remember was that someone was holding me. “Who is this person, and is he holding me?” (laughs) I was scared, that’s why I was making a face. After a few years, I learned that he was famous. My father was his friend and helped him out with his concert.
Sulli: At what age?
Amber: 5, in Las Vegas.
Krystal: The person she took the photo with, he’s a singer?

10Asia: You may now know him, but he was the greatest pop star during my time.
Amber: In Korea too? I had no idea.
Victoria: The four of them, they were really famous in Hong Kong.

10Asia: Amber, I heard that you get close with other celebrities really fast.
Amber: Um, I don’t know actually. I think it’s because I have a lot of international friends, and I talk to them when I’m introduced so...
Sulli: When someone mentions that she’s a foreigner, they tend to think they can talk more freely. That’s why they come up to her first.

10Asia: Sulli, you’re friends with KARA’s Jiyoung, right?
Sulli: When we don’t have schedules we get together and hang out. We first met when we had the same waiting room [on a music show]. Then we found out we were both born in 1994 and we became friends because we felt a connection.

10Asia: Sulli, we heard that you grew a lot in 2 years.
Sulli: Yes, I grew 25cm. (Almost 10 inches.)

10Asia: Wow! What’s your secret? Are your parents tall?
Sulli: Yes. At first, I had no idea how I grew, (laughs) I used to be short! So I went to the doctor to get a check up and they said I would grow if I ate a lot. They said if I didn’t eat, I would never grow. I really didn’t eat a lot back then, so my mom bought me Chinese medicine to increase my appetite. After taking that, I ate a lot. I used to just eat dried anchovies dipped in pepper paste. After eating that a lot I really did grow.

Luna: I eat a lot of dried anchovies too.
f(x): (laughter)
Luna: Why I am different? I like milk and dried anchovies? Ahh, is it because I don’t dip it in pepper paste? (laughs)

10Asia: Krystal, you live at home. But if you were to live in the dorm, who would you want to share a room with?
Krsytal: Haha…um…
Amber: Get your own room.
Krystal: Can’t I get my own room?
Amber: Sleep on the couch.
Victoria: We’ll give you the living room.
Sulli: Good job!
Amber: What’s it called, the room…for the clothes?
f(x): The closet!

10Asia: f(x) has a lot of female fans. What do you think is the reason for that? Is there anything different from having girl or guy fans?
Krystal: I think for our girl fans, they tend to want to take care of us like real sisters, I think that’s why they like us. When we have fan signings, they say, “What do you like? I can give you this and that. Do you want me to get you this?”
Sulli: Girl fans have this thing where they are dependable. Guy fans have something that is satisfying.

10Asia: That’s a wise statement (laughs). But you still haven’t announced an official fanclub name. If you could choose it yourselves, what would you name it?
Luna: Functions?
Krystal: We are functions.
Amber: Y
Victoria: =y
Sulli: I wish it could be something that would make me say, “How did they come up with this?”

10Asia: Last question. Amber once said that if you win #1 on a broadcast you would have an acceptance speech, if you were to get #1, what would you say?
Sulli: I think I would just cry.
Everyone: (imitating Amber crying) Oh my god, oh my god!

The Apple Girl is a global sensation?

Kim Yeo Hee, better known as the Apple Girl, has risen to fame by uploading various videos on YouTube. With growing buzz, millions of views and much intrigue, she signed a record contract with Dream High Entertainment soon after and recently released her EP titled My Music. Media officials are describing her new found success as the “Apple syndrome” and state that her popularity spreads on a global scale.

It has been reported that Kim Yeo Hee is receiving much interest from various parts of the world and even from some big name stars. Hollywood actor Ashton Kutcher tweeted a video of the Apple Girl and blogger / socialite Perez Hilton has also expressed his interest in one of her Lady Gaga cover videos.

There’s even talk of potentially using Kim Yeo Hee and Lady Gaga together as models for the iPhone in the United Kingdom. Kim Yeo Hee is currently promoting her first album, her future is very bright.

YG Entertainment confirms Bigbang’s comeback

On a recent interview with The Herald on the 27th of May, YG Entertainment’s Executive Producer Yang HyunSuk has confirmed that Bigbang will be officially coming back on August.

He also added Bigbang’s current progress and activities.

Yang Hyun Suk, "Big Bang obtained a big result from their Japanese activities. Except for the Red & White Ceremony, they won 5 other awards, including the best newcomer award."

"Big Bang will be the first Korean dance group to be invited to the 'Summer Sonic Festival 2010? in Japan this coming August 7th and 8th, in Tokyo and Osaka. After participating on the main stage they will rush back to Korea for their Korean activities" he said.

3AM receives heat from international netizens!

3AM?! Yes, you heard right. From 2PM to 2AM, it seems like we now have a 3AM on our hands!

3AM (Three/3 Acoustic Men) is a fairly new Filipino boy band who received their group name based on their amazing vocal talents. As you may have noticed, however, their name is extremely similar to that of 2AM, which has got Filipino K-pop–more specifically, 2AM–fans and other international fans upset. In addition, their vocal skills seem almost good enough to rival with 2AM’s.

As of now, Korean netizens either frankly don’t care about the similar names or seem quite unaware of this situation. However, if they do uncover the issue, we all know that there will be quite the riot in our hands.

I personally don’t want to see this new group receiving heat for something so simple as similarities in the name, but we all know how sensitive fans can be. And it would be quite a shame to let all their talents go to waste.

2AM is going to have a birthday party for Changmin Seulong, and Jinwoon who all have May birthdays, and it was filled within 1 minute.

1000 official fan club members and fans that were invited online will attend what Jokwon calls the 'May Birthday Party' on this coming Saturday, May 29, at 5pm in the AX hall in Seoul.

At the party 2AM will sing their hits 'This Song', 'Can't Let You Go Even If I Die', and 'I Did Wrong'. They have planned so they can directly communicate with their fans.

2AM's fans participated and said congratulations through videos and pictures. The two cartoon pictures is said to be drawn by a high school fan.
