Idols Get Injured and Hospitalized

Posted: 24 May 2010 09:36 PM PDT

It seems that over the past few weeks idol singers have been getting either injured or hospitalized; this weekend is no different.

It was revealed on the 24th of May that four idols had been either injured or hospitalized. Those four idols were 4minute’s Hyun-ah, BEAST’s Junhyung, 2PM’s Chansung, and C.N Blue’s Yonghwa.

After 4minute’s performance at Music Bank, the girls were exiting through the crowd when Hyun-ah’s fingers were caught in the door of their car. She experienced pain and was brought to the hospital to check it; there was no fractural injury, however, Hyun-ah is handling her schedule with care as she recovers from it.

BEAST’s Yong Junhyung had injured his ribs whilst performing on May 21st because of the intense choreography. Although he told the staff he was fine, he was sent to the hospital to get examined as a precaution. Cube Entertainment stated, “It is not a serious injury, but we have to get him checked with precise body examination just in case. Fans do not need to worry too much as it is not serious injury.”

During filming for SBS’ Inkigayo on the 23rd, 2PM’s Chansung experienced abdominal pain and was sent to the hospital the next day on the 24th for an examination. JYP Entertainment said, “We will decide his upcoming schedules again after the health examination report comes out on the 25th of May.” Chansung is not the only one injured; member Junsu has also been missing from 2PM’s performances and schedules due to his knee injury. For now, the group has a high chance of promoting as a 4 member group with two of its members’ out due to injuries.

Lastly, C.N Blue’s Jung Yonghwa has been hospitalized with the flu. He previously had vocal cord nodules but had recovered faster than expected and was able to promote their new album Bluelove last week. His schedules stay undecided as they wait for the hospital examination.

A lot of idols have been getting injured, hospitalized, or getting ill nowadays. Let’s hope for a smooth recovery for all of them!

Idol Fashion 2010: Mnet’s Best & Worst

Posted: 24 May 2010 09:26 PM PDT

Idols start all the trends these days. They have the hottest dances, songs, fans, videos, shows and more. One thing they surprise their fans with is their fashion sense.

On Mnet Trend Report Season 5, viewers got a look at idols’ fashion in an episode titled “Fun! Best & Worst” as Mnet rated different idols’ fashion styles. Here are the reporters’ choices!

For the Best Dressed…

First Place: Big Bang’s G-Dragon
Second place: Brown Eyed Girls’
Ga-in
Third place: 2AM
’s Jo Kwon
Fourth place: KARA’s Goo Hara
Fifth place: SHINee
’s Key

As for the Worst Dressed…

First place: SNSD’s YoonA – due to her wardrobe which consists of typically feminine & easily pretty items (in other words, too boring)
Second place: SS501’s Jungmin – ironically, since he owns an online shopping mall!
Third place: 2NE1’s CL – due to the growing predictability of her style / her fashion stylists’ choices
Fourth place: T-ara’s Boram – little effort in dressing herself up
Fifth place: f(x)’s Amber – not many new looks to experiment with anymore

So what do you think – do you agree with this list or not?

MBLAQ’s Lee Joon collapses during recording?

Posted: 24 May 2010 09:23 PM PDT

MBLAQ’s Lee Joon fainted during a recording for Shin Jung Hwan PD’s Variety World? Not quite what you expected of course but it was a semi-serious situation.

An episode that will air on the 25th featured MBLAQ as guests and Lee Joon was playing a game when he collapsed.

The mission was to eat some ice cream in a limited amount of time. Out of nowhere, he just fell on to the ground and laid down.

He said, “The ice cream was so cold. I felt like my head was gonna break.”

It turns out, he ate it so fast he got a brain freeze and they had to pause recording for a little while. Brain freezes could get pretty bad so watch out.

Lee Joon resumed recording after taking a breather. He joked, “It’s hard for an idol to go into variety.” It sure is.

Actor A accused of raping a CF model

Posted: 24 May 2010 08:31 PM PDT

The seemingly-lifted curse has returned in the kpop realm today, and it’s no joke this time.

An unnamed TV personality has been put under fire for reportedly raping a CF model, and blackmailing her with sex tape, which was filmed without permission.

According to the latest reports, this celebrity has already been summoned by the Public Prosecutor’s Office for questioning and is currently awaiting for further consequences soon-to-be ruled by the court.

The story follows (the accused celebrity will be A and the victim will be B)after having a late night outing with few of A’s friends, B included, A took B to his house and engaged her in sexual intercourse by force. The entire scene was captured through A’s cell phone camcorder, and soon released the clip to a friend of his. Toward this situation, B expressed, “I did not want to have sex with him, and I was completely unaware that I was being filmed.”

A police representative revealed, “We have already questioned both sides of the case, as it’s been over a month since the report has come in. With no negotiations made between A and B, we will send this case to the upper court.”

Only a brief background information about both A and B have been released to the media thus far. It turns out, A has made his first major appearance in public through a small role in a short-series broadcast in the year of 2008, whereas B has been shown on TV quite often through various CFs where she was their main model.

To feed your curiosity, a specific individual has already caught the eyes of the almighty netizens. Apparently, A is none other than a newbie actor named Kim Ik, known for his role of a clarinet-playing veterinarian in Beethoven Virus.

Of course, it may not be true at all.

Idol Down! Idol Down!

Posted: 24 May 2010 08:26 PM PDT

In what is becoming a frighteningly common occurrence, two more of your favorite Kpop idols are down for the count.  2PM’s maknae Chansung was feeling ill during the taping of this past Sunday’s Inkigayo and C.N.Blue’s leader Jung Yong Hwa fainted after a taping of his variety show.

Fans noticed that Chansung who had previously performed with the group for “Without U,” was missing during their special stage performance.  Chansung was taken to the hospital and admitted with a diagnosis of gastroenteritis, although he was scheduled for a more thorough examination on the 25th.

C.N.Blue frontman Jung Yong Hwa was sent to the hospital when he fainted after complaining of feeling dizzy.  Yong Hwa had  just finished taping for We Got Married when the incident occurred.  He had been recovering from vocal cord nodule treatments and was supposed to take it easy, but with C.N.Blue’s packed comeback schedule he must have been overdoing it.  He fainted due to exhaustion, had a slight cold, and his vocal cord nodules had worsened even though he had been responding to treatments well and was given the green light to return to activities.

That means 2PM is down to three and a half members with lead singer Junsu being out with a knee injury and the half goes to Wooyoung who was showing signs of vocal cord nodules. Kim Hyun Joong of SS501 also is injured due to a car accident a few weeks ago, but he still managed to perform at the Dream Concert.  SS501’s comeback album and activities were pushed back a little due to his injuries.

Performing injured and fainting is common in the Korean entertainment industry with the tightly packed schedules that artists keep.  Last year when he was a part of the popular Boys Over Flowers, Hyun Joong fainted more than once due to exhaustion, was in a minor car accident, and contracted the H1n1 flu while still taping the drama, filming multitudes of CFs, and then regrouping with SS501 for a comeback.  In fact, last year was a terrible year for many of Korea’s top idols, actresses, MCs, etc. with many fainting from exhaustion, catching the H1N1 flu, sustaining injuries during the shooting of dramas or variety shows like the Brown Eyed Girls‘ Ga In (on Dream Team 2), and getting into car accidents going from one engagement to another like Daesung of Big Bang who was seriously injured in a crash.

Hopefully these latest ailments of a few of our favorite Kpoppers isn’t the start of another year of misfortune.  Seriously, Korean  entertainment companies and the industry itself, need to restructure the way it handles these entertainers’ schedules.  A majority of the problem stems from too much going on, not always eating properly, and not enough sleep.  Take better care of our idols (actors, MCs, comedians, etc.), dang it!

JYP and 2PM Perform at Roseland Ballroom

Posted: 24 May 2010 07:12 PM PDT

Korean entertainers 2AM and JYP performed in Manhattan’s “Roseland Ballroom” Friday evening. The stage set was filled with an impressive Technicolor/L.E.D light show, that world rival any set that they used in any live past performances. The lighted special-effects changed the backdrop during each song and aided with audience participation and mood.

Boy-band, 2AM was the opening act and were welcomed to a blanket of screams that could have filled a sporting area. However, the fan-filled audience was very respectful not to overpower the music.  2AM being extraordinary talents didn't miss one note of their songs, beginning song set with their hit ballad “??? (This Song).”  They also performed “??? ??? (Even If I Die I Can't Let You Go),” “???? (I Was Wrong),”  and “??? ?? (A Friend’s Confession).” The attractive singers were wearing mostly white ensembles with grayish trim making them really stand out on stage. The backdrop also varied showing serene scenery like snow, pictures of the guys and their music video.

The concert continued on with a constant stream of impressive dancing, and song arrangement.  Park Jin Young, now a media mogul, revisited the popular tunes such as the song "Please don't Leave me" that made him a superstar. He also sang his newer hits “Kiss,” “?? ?? ? ? (The House You Live In),” and “No Love No More.”

What was really interesting is that he twisted past song-hits by using various different song arrangements and, although these arrangements may have been seen on various TV programs from Korea, seeing them live in real time left the audience in awe. The singer even acknowledged his divorce issues by jokingly asking the audience to sing the word ??? (Gwenchana), the translates to "it's okay" during the ballad "I already have a girl." He pulled a lucky fan up during the song, and then after he was done teasing her he carried her off.

The always stylish superstar had never been more energetic and kept up with his background dancers that were half his age. When he had spoken to the audience he promised that, as long as there is are people to come to his concert that he will be there even with white hair. After he chatted he then serenaded his fans with the song "even after ten years."  The finale was filled with dancing and JYP singing on guitar. He did only one encore and was then rushed offstage.

OMGKPOP would like to thank Powerhouse Live, JYPE, TheCircleNYC and TencerPR for putting together a great show.
