The line-up includes hit-makers like SM Entertainment’s Girls’™ Generation, whose hit album was Korea’s top seller in 2010 and YG Entertainment’s Big Bang, the biggest boy band in the country who got their start on MTV Korea. DSP Media’s pop quintet Kara, JYP Entertainment’s Wonder Girls and IU on LOEN Entertainment, are all examples of chart-topping talent Comcast brings to serve its diverse culture and community at no additional charge to its more than 19 million Digital Cable homes across the country On Demand under Music, K-Pop. You can catch a glimpse here: A trend that has been steadily building since the early 2000s, K-Pop is similar to American pop music, with accents of R&B, dance, hip hop, electronica, and even the bubblegum genre. This fusion of music styles, along with incredibly stylish videos, has brought K-Pop massive popularity in the U.S. These young stars have become cult favorites amongst millions which makes it easy to see why American K-Pop fans started an email campaign to get South Korea’s hottest 4-member girl group, 2NE1 on the Ellen DeGeneres Show and why another favorite, Wonder Girls were the opening act on the Jonas Brothers’ 2009 tour. TVK provides Comcast On Demand with a one-stop-shop for K-Pop fans both new and old. Seventeen new videos will premiere in September along with five addictive favorites that have made K-Pop a cultural phenomenon. Since each offering is On Demand, viewers can use their remote control to pause, rewind, or fast forward to perfect their lip synching, 24/7. Other hot notables on the On Demand roster includes Big Bang’s resident rapper, T.O.P., who puts a reggae beat on “Turn It Up” in his signature rapping style, along with the Wonder Girls, whose single “Nobody”became the first song by a Korean group to enter the Billboard Hot 100. DBSK/TVXQ, the only K-Pop band to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records for world’s largest fan club; girl band 2NE1, who launched into fame with the cult favorite hit, “Lollipop” and media loved SS501, are all part of the latest pop music sensation and ones you don’t want to miss. |
